The subject of this linocut print is one of Britain's 'temperate rainforests,' places where the trees are covered in epiphytes and mosses. These few remaining pockets of a habitat that was once more common are being mapped by environmentalist Guy Shrubsole.
When I visited the most well known example of this habitat, at Wistman's Wood, on Dartmoor, I was surprised at how small the wood is. Unless woods are protected from overgrazing, there's little chance for any expansion, or new growth. There are other small patches of woodland on Dartmoor. This print shows a stream running through one of those fragments.
This five colour reduction print measures 20 x 30cm and is a limited edition.
